In the eyes of many students, transfering to a 4-year university after going to community college for two years is the best way to get a degree without breaking the bank.
Point Loma Nazarene University has taken this a step further and partnered with community colleges throughout San Diego County, including Grossmont College, to allow students to earn a degree from Point Loma while still attending classes at Grossmont College.
There are currently two such degrees available to students through Grossmont College's program, one for a RN to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), and another for Computer Information Technology, B.A.
Most of the program will be completed online with a small amount of face-to-face instruction, meaning that it is possible to complete the program while still working full-time. The projected completion time is 15 months for RN to BSN and 18 months for Computer Information Technology.
One of the biggest draws for the program is not only does this program provide students with a more flexible way to gain a degree, but because the classes are through Grossmont College, they are also significantly cheaper. The price per unit at Point Loma is about $1,000 compared to the $500 per unit for the RN to BSN program and $540 per unit for CIT.
Both programs have required prerequisites, and you must be at least 23, or 21 with an associate’s degree or significant work experience. Each program also has a slightly different application process, but transcripts, test scores, and a written essay are required for both.
Point Loma also has similar programs at other community colleges including Southwestern, San Diego City College, Palomar College, and Mira Costa College. These programs provide degrees in Criminal Justice, B.A., Bachelor of Business Administration, and Child Development, B.A.
